With Nigel Glockler, SAXON in 1982 entered the heyday. Introducing a soundboard album that can be called a sequel to the historic masterpiece “THE EAGLE HAS LANDED”.
“September 18, 1982 Glasgow performance” is included in this work. That stereo soundboard recording. Speaking of SAXON in 1982, of course, it was the year of “THE EAGLE HAS LANDED”. Let’s look back on the schedule at that time and confirm the position of the show.
● 1981
・ January 23-April 6: Europe # 1 (24 performances)
・ May 4-7: Japan (4 performances)
・ May 15th / June 3rd / July 17th: Europe # 2 (3 performances)
“October 5” DENIM AND LEATHER “released”
《Pete Gill withdrawal → Nigel Glockler joins》
・ October 7th-December 16th: Europe # 3 (45 performances) ← * Official
● 1982
・ February 13-March 29: North America # 1 (18 performances)
“May 10” THE EAGLE HAS LANDED “released”
・ May 20-29: Europe # 4 (3 performances)
・ June 4th-August 23rd: North America # 2 / UK # 1 (43 performances)
・ September 12-October 9: UK # 2 (22 performances) ← ★ Coco ★
・ December 5: Corciano performance
This is SAXON in 1981/1982. Previously, their data was scarce, but recently research has progressed considerably. Now I can understand the situation. The masterpiece “THE EAGLE HAS LANDED” does not have a specific date credit, but it is credited as “Recorded in Europe in 1981” and the drummer is also Nigel. Overall, it seems that it was produced in “Europe # 3”. On the other hand, the Glasgow performance of this work is about half a year later. It was the 4th performance of “UK # 2”.
This work recorded at such a show is an FM sound board with outstanding freshness. Although it is an air check, the freshness that was directly digitized from the Omoto cassette recorded at that time is overwhelming, and of course there are no dubbing marks. Although the roughness of broadcasting in the 1980s cannot be compared with “THE EAGLE HAS LANDED”, it can be called “official class” if it is an archaeological system such as a bonus track. Rather, the freshness that has not been polished for official products tickles the nasal passages of a clean soundboard enthusiast.
It is not a different version that looks exactly like “THE EAGLE HAS LANDED” that is drawn with such a fragrant FM sound of NWOBHM. Let’s organize the set while comparing here.
・ Wheels of Steel: Motorcycle Man / 747 (Strangers In The Night) / Wheels Of Steel
・ Strong Arm Of The Law: Hungry Years (★) /20,000 Ft./Strong Arm Of The Law
・ Denim and leather: Princess Of The Night / Never Surrender
・ Power and the Glory: The Eagle Has Landed (★)
* Note: The “★” mark is a song that cannot be heard on the traditional version “THE EAGLE HAS LANDED”.
…… And it looks like this. “Hungry Years”, which I didn’t play on the previous tour, is also delicious, but the one that catches my ears is “The Eagle Has Landed”, which will be included in “POWER & THE GLORY”. I couldn’t listen to it even in the 2006 expansion version of “THE EAGLE HAS LANDED”, and it’s a new song that started to be played from the above “UK # 2” in the first place. The sound board is still playing a few early live performances.
While being the same member as the official Daimyo board, the Glasgow performance six months later, which will be the “next step”. It is a sound board album that you can taste the subtleties vividly and directly. Scary and unknowing SAXON who didn’t know to stumble yet and succeeded in everything he did. It is a new master of the live album where you can fully enjoy the smiling power of the goddess. Please enjoy it to your heart’s content.
★ Stereo sound board recording of “September 18, 1982 Glasgow Performance”, about half a year after “THE EAGLE HAS LANDED”. It is a new master that was recently discovered, and the freshness that was directly digitized from the Omoto cassette recorded at that time is overwhelming. The rough sound that seems to be broadcast in the 1980s is the so-called “excavation system official class”. It is a type that tickles the nasal cavity of a sound board enthusiast whose freshness is just right. “Hungry Years” and “The Eagle Has Landed”, which you can’t even hear in “THE EAGLE HAS LANDED”, are also delicious sequel live albums.
